Dr. Elijah White, pioneer physician and sub-Indian agent, was born in 1806 in New York state. In 1836, White was appointed by the Methodist Church to serve as a doctor at Jason Lee's Willamette Mission. He served at the mission until 1841, when he disagreed with Lee regarding mission policy and resigned, returning east by ship. Elwood Evans was born about 1828. By the early 1850's he was living in Olympia, WA. He was one of the first attorneys to practice in Olympia. As one of the early pioneers of Thurston County, WA, he was very active in political life holding many local offices. He was elected to the first Legislative Assembly in Washington Territory. Asa Lawrence Lovejoy (1808-1882), traveled to Oregon in 1842, journeyed to Bent's Fort with Dr. Whitman in 1843, and returned the same year to Oregon.
